Screening questionnaire for effectively screening patients for OSA:
It is estimated that up to 60 million Americans suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Many, perhaps most, are not aware they suffer from this potentially life threatening condition. By screening patients, the decision of whether or not to refer for a sleep study is determined.
Electronic Home Sleep Screening Device (RU Sleeping RST)
For immediate home use, patients can be sent home with the R U Sleeping RST. This digital home sleep screening monitor records the absence of air-flow (inhale/exhale) that occurs for at least 10 seconds, each hour of sleep throughout the night. If the patient stops breathing for at least 10 seconds, 5 or more times per hour, at least mild sleep apnea is likely. This device is easy to use for the patient. Upon returning it to the dentist office, the dental office staff can quickly review and record the data captured. The results of this objective screen is very helpful in determining if the patient should be referred for a sleep test.
Sleep testing can be accomplished in two ways: 1) In home sleep testing equipment can be deployed for the patient to “wear” while sleeping at home. These test results are reviewed by a Board Certified Sleep Physician, and a diagnosis is made. 2) In-Lab sleep test is required by the patient’s insurance carrier: In this case, our Medical Provider will refer the patient for an in-lab sleep test and a diagnosis is made.
Our unique Store-it-Forward technology: Patients can be seen by our Medical Provider via recorded store-it-forward visits, simply completed during your dental office visit. Store-it-forward visits are reviewed remotely by our Medical Provider for patient convenience, for both sleep testing referral and ultimately, oral appliance or CPAP prescription. Medi-Dent Connect provides access to both potentially prescribed therapies.
